Growth Habits: Semi-evergreen stemless perennial, carpet forming, up to 4 inches tall (10 cm) or more, leaves up to 2 inches in diameter (5 cm)
Watering Needs: Somewhat drought resistant, but prefers moist, well drained, humus rich soil.
Propagation: Division in the fall, seeds in winter.
The Violet leaves and flowers are edible. The leaves can be used in salads or cooked. The flowers are scented and make a marvellous addition to a salad. Root are sometimes used as a laxative herbal tea.
The species epithet "odorata" comes from the Latin for "scented".
In the soutwestern US hot summers, the violets are generally dormant from June to October.
