Growth Habits: Deciduous shrub, 10 to 15 feet tall (3-4.5 m), 10 to 12 feet wide (3-3.6 m); stems are reddish on the top; dark green, slightly pubescent, simple, ovate leaves, 2 to 5 inches long (5-12 cm), 1 to 2.4 inches wide (2.5-6 cm), orange to scarlet in the fall

Watering Needs: Moist soil; does not tolerate heat or drought, prefers acidic soil, difficult to transplant
Propagation: Cuttings, seeds
Blooming Habits:
White flowers, 2.5 to 3 inches in diameter (6-7.5 cm) in early summer.
Fruiting Habits:
The fruit is a one inch long (2.5 cm) woody capsule.
