Home Page | Uncarina is a small genus of 10 or less caudiciform shrub and small trees from the sesame family. They are endemic to arid areas of the western part of Madagascar.
Uncarinas have extremely attractive flowers in summer. The seed capsule of the Uncarinas is equiped with radiating spines ending in a hook. These hooks attach the seed to animal passing by and allow it to be carried for a long time until the hooks have been broken enough for the seed to fall.
