Growth Habits: Deciduous tree, up to 20 feet tall (6 m); exfoliating bark; narrow elliptic to oblong, leathery, lustrous 2.8 to 8 inches long (7-20 cm), 1.6 to 4 inches wide (4-8 cm), turning bright yellow in the fall
Flowers: White flowers, in late spring to early summer
Watering Needs: Moderate water
Propagation: Seeds in the fall, they might only germinate the second spring after planting
Blooming Habits:
Dioecious, bright white, fragrant flowers, 1 inch long (2.5 cm) with 4 thread-like petals. The Chinese Fringe Tree is covered with white flowers, in striking terminal panicles, in late spring.
Fruiting Habits:
Clusters of dark blue fruit, 0.5 to 1 inch in diameter (1.2-2.5 cm) on female trees.
Propagation:
Both male and female trees must be present for the female trees to produce seeds. The trees can take up to 10 years to produce flowers when grown from seeds.
