Origin: Hybrid of Magnolia denudata x Magnolia liliiflora

Growth Habits: Deciduous tree or shrub, 15 to 25 feet tall and wide (4.5-7.5 m); gray smooth bark on older trees; furry buds; dark green obovate leaves, 5 to 6 inches long (12.5-15 cm)

Watering Needs: Prefers moist soil, with good organic content, needs good drainage

Propagation: Cuttings in summer under mist

Propagation: Cutting or occasionally seed, layering

There are a number of cultivars with more or less scented flowers, more or less dark, more or less frost resistance.

Blooming Habits:
Fragrant goblet-shaped upright white and pink flowers, 3 to 4 inches long (7.5-10 cm), 5 to 7 inches in diameter (12.5-17.5 cm), opening in early spring, before the leaves.

Fruiting Habits:
Green cone-like fruits, red when mature in late summer, containing red seeds.
