Origin: Southern Europe to Iran
Growth Habits: Evergreen subshrub, "leaves" (actually they are called cladodes) up to 4 inches long (10 cm), small white flowers in the middle of a leaf-looking bract, followed by red berries
Watering Needs: Fairly drought resistant, needs good drainage and alkaline soil
The similar looking Ruscus aculeatus has spine tipped "leaves"
Blooming Habits:
Most plants are either male or female. The berries will occur only if you have both types of flowers.
