Purple Origano, Ornamental Origano

Frost Tolerance: The foliage is destroyed when the temperature drops much below freezing. It starts from the base in the spring.

This Origano, although scented is not as scented as the other origanos. It is not used as an herb, but is rather cultivated for its attractive flowers, and is an attraction for bee and butterfly.
Cultivars: 'Herrenhausen' - Reddish violet flowers, purplish foliage in spring and fall 'Hopleys' - Mauve-pink flowers.

Blooming Habits:
The Origanum laevigatum has purple flowers from mid summer to mid fall. The flowers can be dried to use in floral arrangements.

Culture:
Cut back to ground every year or other year to keep tidier.
