The genus Nepeta has over 200 species. Nepeta cataria, the catnip is famous for its effect on cats. The smell of Catnip, makes cats euphoric, they like sniffing, and playing with it. The plant has a strong smell of mint. It can be used to make a soothing tea for humans.
Blooming Habits:
White or lavender flower spikes in early summer.
Culture:
Catnips like well drained sandy soil. Average soil is better, since too rich a soil tends to produce soft growth that tips over easily. Cut the spent flowers to push the plant to produce more.
