Growth Habits: Deciduous tree, 75 to 70 feet tall (22.5 to 21 m.), 40 to 70 feet in spread (12 to 21 m.), pinnate leaves

Flowers: Greenish flowers

Watering Needs: Moderate water to regular water, needs good drainage

Propagation: Seed or occasionally cutting, grafting/budding

  • by softwood stem tip cuttings. Use intermittent mist. Root in 6-8 weeks. Wound cuttings. ( cutting rooting success was 23 per cent.) Pecan is considered to be a non-rooter..
  • by whip, patch grafts, in spring. Scions are taken in mid-winter and stored at 35 F.
  • by seeds, in spring. Germinates at 70-85 degrees F. The seeds can be harvested in autumn. The seeds need stratify 40F 2-3mo.. The usual germination temperature is 70-85 degrees F.
