Origin: Southwestern Oregon, south to Baja California

Growth Habits: Deciduous small to large tree or large shrub, slow to medium rate of growth to 20 to 60 feet tall (6-18 m), occasionally up to 100 feet (30 m); trunk 2 to 3 feet in diameter, occasionally more; smooth pale gray bark; leathery oblong leaves, with smooth or spiny edges, dark green on top, fuzzy pale golden underside, 1 to 2 inches long (2.5-5 cm)

Watering Needs: Little water and good drainage

Propagation: Seeds (acorns)


Fruiting Habits:
The acorns are 1 to 3 inches long (2.5-7 cm), solitary or in clusters, maturing after 2 years.
