Growth Habits: Deciduous shrub, rounded, up to 5 to 10 feet tall (1.5-3 m), 4 to 10 feet spread (1.2-3 m); thorny branches with dark colored bark; gray-green pinnate leaves, 1 to 2 inches long (2.5-5 cm) with 6 to 10 leaflets, 0.25 inch wide (6 mm).
Watering Needs: Little to moderate water when established, needs good drainage
The species is named after the Dr. Wislizenus, botanist who collected many cactus and other plants in Mexico in the middle of the 19th century.
Blooming Habits:
The Shrubby Senna bears yellow flowers, 1 inch across (2 to 2.5 cm), in crowded panicles, in summer, with most of them in late summer.
Fruiting Habits:
Black shiny pods, up to 4 to 5 inches long (10-12 cm).
