Growth Habits: Evergreen shrub, 12 inches tall (30 cm), spreading by rhizomes; leathery dark green leaves, 0.32 to 1 inch long (8-25 mm), pale green undersides, more or less purplish in winter.
Watering Needs: Needs moist soil, prefers sandy, acidic soils, tolerates wet soils
Propagation: Seeds, division, rhizome cuttings
Blooming Habits:
White or pinkish bell-shaped flowers, in droopy racemes of 1 to 15 flowers, in late spring.
Fruiting Habits:
Small, bright red to dark red berries, 0.25 to 0.5 inch in diameter (6-12 mm), sour tasting, used to make jellies or syrup.
