Origin: Mexico (Tamaulipas, Veracruz), cultivated for its fruit
Growth Habits: Epiphyte, bluish or reddish stems 1.2 to 2 inches in diameter (3-5 cm), 4-6 ribs, not very visible in older stems; areoles with whitish felt, 0.3 to 0.7 inch in diameter (0.8-1.7 cm); 1 to 4 or more conical spines, 1 to 6 mm long
Blooming Habits:
Strongly scented white flowers, 10 to 12 inches long (25-30 cm), followed by edible spinyglobose red fruit, 2.4 to 2.8 inches in diameter (6-7 cm)
