Origin: Eastern Utah, southwestern Colorado

Growth Habits: Clumping, in groups of up to 9 green globose stems, 1.5 to 2.5 inches tall (4-6.2 cm), 1.5 to 2 inches in diameter (4-5 cm); 12 tubercled ribs; areoles 0.1 inch in diameter (3 mm), 0.4 inch apart (9 mm); stems obscured by the spines; (0 or) 1 to 3 generally unhooked central spines, the lower brown, the upper(s) white, 0.4 to 1.2 inches long (1-3 cm); 6 to 8 radials, 0.2 inches long (5 mm).

Blooming Habits:
Purple or pink flowers, 1.6 to 2 inches in diameter (4-5 cm), 1.2 to 1.6 inches long (3-4 cm). The fruit is barrel shaped with a few scales.
