Origin: Mexico (Baja California Sur), type collected in San Jose Island
Growth Habits: Clambering or climbing species, large tuberous root, stems up to 10 feet long (3 m); 3 to 5 ribs; dark brown to black spines; 1 to 3 centrals, 0.2 to 0.3 in. long (4-8 mm); 8-11 radials.

Blooming Habits:
Nocturnal fragrant white flowers, 6 inches long (15 cm), tube with prominent areoles and black spines. Edible ovoid fruit, 2.4 inches long (6 cm).
