Growth Habits: Tree like columnar cactus, up to 60 feet tall (20 m), trunks up to 40 inches in diameter (1 m); areoles very close, often confluent; 11 to 14 ribs; 3-4 central spines, one longer up to 4 inches long (10 cm), 10-12 thin radials

Blooming Habits:
Reddish to creamish nocturnal flowers, emerging from a brown woolly pseudo-cephalium, 2.4 to 2.8 inches long (6-7 cm). The wool falls after the fruits are ripe.
