The young pads of this species (as well as of several Opuntias) are sold as 'nopales' and are used as vegetable in the Mexican cuisine. The variety '1308' has been selected for its quasi absence of spines and glochids (irritating hair-like spines)
Blooming Habits:
Pink flowers, 2 inches long (5 cm), followed by red fruits, also 2 inches long (5 cm).
