Origin: Northern Chile (Antofagasta).
Growth Habits: Solitary, slowly clumping as it ages, 2 inches in diameter (5 cm); tuberous root; generally 8 to 10, up to 14 tuberculate ribs; a spineless form is more popular with the collectors; 0 or 1 central spine, 0.2 to 0.4 inch long (5-10 mm); 4 to 8 short radials, 0.12 to 0.44 inch long (3-11 mm). All the spines tends to fall as the plant ages.
