The species name "chionocephala" comes from the Greek for "with snowy head".

Blooming Habits:
The Mammillaria chionocephala has light pink, 0.6 inch wide (1.5 cm) flowers with a darker midstripe in late winter. The flower photograph was taken in late March at the Huntington (HBG 56984).
