The species name aureilanata comes from the Latin for 'golden wool'. It is coming from a very small area from the state of San Luis Potosí in Mexico, where it is considered endangered.

Blooming Habits:
The Mammillaria aureilanata var. alba has creamy flowers in winter while the Mammillaria aureilanata var. aureilanata has large pink flowers.
