Scientific Name: Gymnocalycium mihanovichii cv. 'Hibotan' Britton & Rose
Synonym: Echinocactus mihanovichii
Family: Cactaceae
Moon Cactus, Ruby Ball(Gymnocalycium mihanovichii cv. 'Hibotan')

Frost Tolerance: Depends on which cactus it is grafted.

Sun Exposure: Light shade

Origin: Paraguay

The top of this cactus is not a fruit or a flower, it is actually the Gymnocalycium. This variety developed in Japan does not have any chlorophyll, and depend for its nourishment on the other cactus on which it is grafted. This other cactus is generally a Hylocereus (as in the picture). Hylocereus are fairly cold sensitive, and somewhat short lived. If possible, it is a good idea to re-graft it on something tougher, like a Trichocereus.
