Origin: Central Arizona, 1200 to 4000 feet elevation (360-1200 m)
Growth Habits: Solitary, grows slowly to 10 feet tall (3 m), 12 inches in diameter (30 cm); 18 to 25 obtuse ribs; usually 4 central spines, the lowest the longest, curved but not hooked, 2.6 to 3.2 inches long (6-8 cm); 12 to 14 white spreading radial spines, 1.4 to 2 inches long (2.5-5 cm).
Blooming Habits:
Large yellow flowers in May, surrounding the apex, 2 to 3 inches in diameter (5-7.5 cm), 2 inches long (5 cm)
