Origin: Mexico (Gulf of California, San Estebán Island, San Lorenzo Island)

Growth Habits: Solitary, or occasionally branched, stems 4 to 20 inches tall (10-50 cm), 3 to 5 inches in diameter (8-12 cm); (18 to) 21 to 25 low ribs; large elongated areoles; White or cream-colored spines; 8 to 12 central spines, 15 to 25 radials, staying next to the skin.

Blooming Habits:
White or pale yellow flowers with greenish base, up to 3 inches in diameter (7 cm), 2 to 2.4 inches long (5-6 cm), near the stem tips, in March-April. The plants coming from San Lorenzo Island often have pinkish flowers. The fruits are very spiny.
