Growth Habits: Cactus with freely branching, dark green, elongated stems, 1 inch in diameter (2.5 cm), 12 inches in length (30 cm); 5 to 7 tuberculate ribs; small brownish areoles, 0.4 to 0.6 inches apart; 1 to 3 yellowish brown central spines, 1 to 2 inches long (2.5-5 cm); 6 to 9 radials turning white as they age, 0.3 to 0.4 inch long (8-10 mm)
The elongated stems of this hedgehog cactus make it suited to hanging baskets.
Blooming Habits:
Prolific masses of large, 2.4 to 3.2 inches in diameter (6-8 cm), purplish-pink flowers with darker throat, 2 to 3.2 inches long (5-8 cm). Stigma with 7 to 10 lobes.
