Growth Habits: Forming large clumps, each stem 4 to 12 inches tall (10-30 cm), 1.6 to 2 inches in diameter (4-5 cm); 8 to 10 ribs obscured by the spines; areoles 0.1 to 0.2 inch apart (2-5 mm); 5 to 9 central spines, up to 2.8 inches long (7 cm); up to 18 radials, 0.4 to 0.8 inch long, 1-2 cm
