Growth Habits: Usually solitary, flattened dark greyish green stems, up to 4 inches tall (10 cm), 2.4 to 4 inches in diameter (6-10 cm); conical tubercles, 0.24 inch long (6 mm), 0.5 to 0.6 inch broad (12-14 mm); 4 or 5 central spines, occasionally 1 to 4 accessory ones above, 1 to 1.6 inches long (2.5-4 cm); 14 to 20 needle shaped radial spines, 0.4 to 1 inch (1 to 2.5 cm) long
