The species name comes from the Latin for 'hedgehog'. This species has 16 to 30 white radial spines, measuring up to 0.6 inches long (1.5 cm)

Blooming Habits:
The Coryphantha echinus has 2 inches wide (5 cm) yellow flowers, followed by green fruits.
