Growth Habits: Mostly erect columnar cactus, branching at the base; stems up to 6.5 feet long (2 m), 4 inches in diameter (10 cm); 9 to 17 straight ribs; 1 central spine, 1.2 inches (3 cm) long; 2 to 7 radial spines
Blooming Habits:
Mature stems produce somewhat blackish lateral cephalium that can reach 2.5 feet long (75 cm) from which emerge the nocturnal pale yellow or pinkish flowers, 3 inches long (7.5 cm), up to 1.6 inches in diameter (4 cm). The top-shaped fruits are violet, 1.2 inches long (3 cm), 0.8 inches in diameter (2 cm)
