Frost Tolerance: The top of the plant generally dies in winter and the plant sprouts back from the cold resistant rhizomes.

Growth Habits: Deciduous up to 4 feet tall (1.2 m.), up to 1.67 feet in spread (50 cm.), up to 3.33 feet long (1 m.), 0.2 to 0.4 inches long (5 to 10 mm.)

Flowers: Pink flowers, up to 1.2 inches long (3 cm.), up to 0.8 inches wide (2 cm.), in early summer to late summer

Watering Needs: Boggy soils or aquatic plant, in a medium to large pool. Optimal water depth 1 to 6 inches (2.5-15 cm). The Butomus can also grow entirely submersed but then doesn't bloom.

Propagation: Root division in spring, seeds in summer, root bulbils

Classified as invasive or weed and banned in several northern states.

Blooming Habits:
Attractive umbels of relatively large pink flowers in spring or late summer and autumn. The flowers are 0.8 to 1.2 inches in diameter (2-3 cm). The flowers have 3 pinkish petals and 3 smaller pinkish sepals.

Culture:
Divide every 3-4 years. Check for aphids.
