The inflorescence is distinctly bicolor red and cream. This is the result of the fact that the buds are red and the open flowers are creamy white. In the flower picture taken at the Huntington at the end of December (HBG 6594), none of the flowers have opened yet.
Culture:
The species name 'petricola' means that it 'grows in rocky places'.
