Origin: Mountains of Madagascar (Ivato, Mt. Ravotay), around 4000 feet elevation (1300 m)
Growth Habits: Succulent rosette, up to 16 inches in diameter (40 cm)
Watering Needs: Keep drier in winter
Vegetatively similar to A. capitata with its glaucous gray, toothy leaves, A. conifera differs in its distinctive cone-like inflorescence. The juvenile plant on the picture has 4" long (10 cm) 1" wide (2.5 cm) purplish grey leaves that become narrower close to the stem. There are many purple thorns on the leaf edges and smaller ones on the leaf underside.
