The fancy leaf caladiums are divided in 3 categories, red, pink, and white. the leaves measure typically between 8 and 12 inches long (20 to 30 cm), but can be much bigger.
Caladium juice is toxic, if ingested it can cause swelling of the mucous membranes.
Culture:
Plant bulbs outside in early summer, or inside in February-March. Set them 2 inches deep (5 cm), 2 to 10 inches apart (5-25 cm) depending on the bulb size. The plants should be kept above 70°F (21°C). Apply light fertilizer every 6 weeks. Beware of slugs and snails. Dig and store the tubers for the winter.
