Growth Habits: Semi-evergreen or evergreen perennial, 0.167 to 1.5 feet tall (5 to 45 cm.), 6 to 9 inches in spread (15 to 22.5 cm.), linear leaves, 0.167 to 1.5 feet long (5 to 45 cm.), up to 0.24 inches long (6 mm.)

Flowers: Greenish insignificant flowers

Watering Needs: Grows best in boggy soils, in baskets on the side of medium to large ponds, 3 to 8 inches deep (8-20 cm)

Propagation: Easy to start from root division in spring.

There are several varieties commonly found:

  • "Ogon": has golden yellow leaves.
  • "Pusillus": is very small, with leaves 1 inch long (2.5 cm), popular as aquarium plant and in dish gardens.
  • 'Variegatus": has large striped leaves.
